Numerical Simulation of Natural Gas Flow in Transmission Lines through CFD Method Considering Effective Parameters

Most of gas sources are located in long distances from consumption centers. Gas is sent to final consumption points sometimes thousands kilometers far from their sources after extraction. So according to gas industries development and improvement of its transmission industries, technical developments are necessary in order to analyze the gas transmission system. In this study for the first time, natural gas flow in transmission pipe lines is modeled via continuity, momentum, and energy equations and also ideal state equation as an auxiliary equation. Also the effect of turbulence is considered in 2D geometry. Resulted partial differential equations must be solved simultaneously, then computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and finite volume method are used for discretization of differential equations. An approximate 4% error shows delicacy of this method. Finally, effect of variation in temperature of inlet gas, gas’s flow rate, and ambient temperature on pressure drop and system’s parameters are studied.
